What should you know about multiple dermatofibroma causes?

A dermatofibroma is a firm collection of fibrous tissue within the skin. It commonly feels anchored, may dimple inward when pinched, and often appears tan, pink, brown or darker than nearby skin. Some follow an insect bite, minor injury or other local irritation, while many arise without a clear trigger. Multiple lesions can occur, and their presence alone does not prove a systemic illness. A clinician may use dermoscopy or another examination method when a lesion is atypical.

Stable, symptom-free nodules can often be watched. Photograph them in consistent light and avoid repeated picking or shaving over them. Seek urgent help for severe pain, spreading redness, fever or bleeding that will not stop with pressure. These signs are reasons for examination, not proof of a particular diagnosis.

Ask whether the nodules have typical dermatofibroma features, whether any needs dermoscopy or biopsy, and what changes should be recorded. If removal is considered, ask about scar position, healing time, recurrence at the treated site and whether observation would be reasonable.
