Motus Laser Hair Removal: What to Know

The device delivers laser energy to pigment in the hair follicle. Heat can impair the follicle's ability to produce a hair, while integrated cooling is intended to make the skin more comfortable during treatment. Because hairs cycle through active and resting phases, one visit cannot affect every follicle equally; the clinician usually plans a series of appointments.

Motus platforms may use different wavelengths or operating modes. Alexandrite, diode, and Nd:YAG lasers interact with skin and hair in different ways, so the chosen approach should reflect your skin tone, hair colour, treatment area, and recent tanning. Light-coloured, grey, or red hair may respond differently because it contains less of the target pigment.

Tell the clinic about tanning, active skin disease, medicines that increase light sensitivity, a history of abnormal scarring, and any tendency toward cold sores. Follow the clinic's instructions about shaving and skin products. Avoid plucking or waxing between sessions if the follicle needs to remain present for the laser to target it.

After treatment, temporary warmth, redness, or swelling around follicles can occur. Use the recommended soothing care and protect treated skin from sun exposure. Do not pick at crusting or apply irritating products until the skin has settled. Hair may shed gradually rather than disappear immediately.

Contact the treating clinic if pain is worsening, blisters develop, swelling is marked, or the skin becomes increasingly dark or light after treatment. Urgent assessment is appropriate for spreading redness with fever, pus, or facial swelling. These findings may represent a burn, infection, or another reaction needing examination.

If bumps persist after shaving, ask whether they are ingrown hairs or razor bumps rather than a treatment reaction. Recurrent painful lumps in body folds should also be assessed, particularly when hidradenitis suppurativa is a concern. Laser hair removal should not delay evaluation of a new skin lesion.
