Radiotherapy involves imaging, treatment planning, dose instructions, appointments and checks before each session. The software supports clinical work; it does not independently choose the treatment or replace the radiation oncologist, physicist, radiographer or nurse.

Your care may involve external beam treatment or another radiation approach, depending on the cancer and treatment goal. The team uses scans and planning information to shape treatment around the intended target while considering nearby healthy tissue. Your individual plan is based on your diagnosis, anatomy and overall care plan.

Check the appointment plan with your radiotherapy team and report missed visits, new medicines, pregnancy or a change in your health. Before each session, tell staff about new pain, skin changes, swallowing difficulty, nausea or other symptoms so they can assess them. Keep the treatment instructions provided by your centre, including skin-care and positioning guidance.

Ask which information is recorded, who to contact between sessions and how changes to your plan will be explained. A schedule shown in a patient portal or printed record can change for clinical reasons, so confirm uncertain appointments directly with the treatment centre.

Contact the radiotherapy team promptly for worsening skin damage, inability to drink, repeated vomiting, new weakness, uncontrolled pain or a fever. If treatment involves the head or brain, urgent assessment is needed for a seizure, sudden confusion, severe headache, new weakness or difficulty speaking. Emergency care is appropriate for severe breathing difficulty, collapse or uncontrolled bleeding.
