What should you know about monoaxial pedicle screw?

The screw is placed through the pedicle, a strong bridge of bone at the back of a vertebra. Monoaxial describes the connection between the screw and its head: they remain in one fixed line rather than pivoting. Several screws can be connected by rods to hold a planned spinal position while bone healing takes place.

The implant itself does not diagnose the cause of back pain or guarantee that symptoms will disappear. Its use depends on the spinal level, bone quality, deformity, instability, and the operation being planned.
