What should you know about mini HIFU devices?

HIFU stands for high-intensity focused ultrasound. The handpiece sends energy below the surface without removing the outer layer of skin. The target depth and energy level depend on the device and the area being treated. A small home or salon-style device may not match a regulated clinical platform, so its results and safety controls cannot be assumed from the word HIFU alone.

Treatment can cause brief heat, prickling, tenderness, or sensitivity. Changes usually develop gradually as the treated tissue responds. HIFU is not a substitute for assessment of a new lump, rash, wound, or facial weakness.

Before treatment, have a qualified clinician identify the area, review your medical history, and explain the exact device, cartridge depth, energy settings, and eye or nerve precautions. Avoid treating over open skin, active infection, or an unexplained swelling. Follow the provider’s instructions about sun exposure, skincare products, and makeup.
