What should you know about mimi hearing test?

Short answer

A hearing test checks how softly you can hear different sounds and helps identify the type and pattern of hearing change.

This answers one question. It is not a diagnosis and does not replace an assessment by a licensed doctor.

What it measures
Hearing sensitivity and, in some tests, speech understanding
What to bring

Sudden hearing loss needs prompt medical care

What the test tells you

A hearing assessment may include questions about noise exposure, infections, medicines, ringing, dizziness, and difficulty following speech. An examiner may look in the ear canal before testing. During pure-tone testing, you listen through headphones and respond when you hear tones; other parts may check speech understanding or how the eardrum moves.

Results are interpreted for each ear and across different pitches. A blocked ear from Earwax Buildup can reduce hearing, while inner-ear problems such as Meniere's Disease may occur with hearing fluctuation, ringing, or vertigo. The test result is one part of the clinical picture.

How to prepare and follow up

Bring hearing aids, a list of medicines, and details of when the change began. Tell the tester if you could not hear a tone or were unsure whether a sound was present; guessing is acceptable and does not spoil the assessment. Avoid loud noise immediately beforehand when possible, and ask how to protect your hearing at work or during recreation.

Follow-up may involve repeat testing, ear examination, wax management, hearing support, or referral to an ear specialist. Do not put cotton swabs or objects into the ear canal.

When to seek care urgently

Seek prompt medical care for sudden hearing loss, especially in one ear, or hearing change with severe dizziness, facial weakness, severe headache, ear injury, discharge, or new neurological symptoms. Sudden symptoms should not wait for a routine test booking.

Questions for your doctor

Ask which part of the ear may be involved, whether wax or infection needs treatment, whether both ears need testing, how to read the result, and when reassessment is needed. Ask what changes should trigger urgent review.

Questions people ask

Does a hearing test hurt?

Most standard hearing tests are non-invasive and involve listening and responding, although some supporting tests may feel unusual.

Can earwax affect the result?

Yes. A blockage can reduce sound reaching the eardrum, so the ear may be examined before results are interpreted.
