What should you know about microneedling RF with PRP?

A clinician uses a device with small needles to create controlled channels in the skin. Radiofrequency energy travels through the needle tips and warms deeper skin layers, while the needle action stimulates a repair response. PRP, or platelet-rich plasma, is prepared from a small sample of your blood and placed on or into the treated skin according to the clinician's technique. Platelets contain substances involved in healing, but the response varies between people and the treatment does not remove every scar, line, or pigment change.

The treatment may be considered for uneven texture, acne-scar appearance, fine lines, enlarged pores, or some sun-related changes. It is not the same as a standard microneedling session because RF adds heat, and it is not the same as a blood injection used to treat a medical condition. A consultation should review your skin tone, active inflammation, scarring tendency, medicines, and the result you want.

Before treatment, share your full medicine and supplement list, allergy history, history of cold sores, tendency to form raised scars, and any recent tanning or cosmetic procedure. Your clinician may ask you to pause selected irritating skincare products or medicines, but do not stop a prescribed medicine without specific medical advice. Arrive with clean skin and follow the clinic's instructions about numbing cream and blood sampling.

Afterward, mild redness, warmth, swelling, sensitivity, pinpoint bleeding, or a rough feeling can occur. Use only the cleanser, moisturiser, and sunscreen recommended for the early recovery period. Avoid picking, vigorous rubbing, intense heat, swimming, and unapproved active products until the skin barrier has settled. Protect treated skin from sunlight because irritation can make pigment changes more noticeable, particularly in skin prone to melasma.

Contact the treating clinic promptly if pain, redness, swelling, or heat is worsening rather than easing, or if you develop spreading redness, pus, fever, blistering, marked darkening, or an unexpected rash. Seek urgent care for breathing difficulty, facial or throat swelling, fainting, or rapidly worsening symptoms. A cold-sore outbreak near the treated area also needs timely medical advice, especially if you have had this problem before.

Ask which skin concern the combination is intended to address, what needle depth and RF settings are appropriate for you, how PRP will be prepared and applied, and what recovery pattern is expected. Confirm who will perform the procedure, how your skin will be protected from pigment changes, which products or medicines to avoid, and what symptoms should trigger a same-day call.
