Microneedling and milia: what to know

Milia are small, firm, pale cysts containing keratin beneath the surface of the skin. They are different from acne and are not usually cleared by broad microneedling. Creating multiple punctures around them can cause redness, irritation, or infection without opening each cyst in a controlled way.

Microneedling is designed to create tiny channels that start a repair response, often for uneven texture or selected scars. Milia sit in individual small cysts, so the treatment does not target their contents precisely. A spot that looks like milia could instead be another cyst, a blocked pore, or a lesion that needs a different diagnosis.

Around the eyelids, the skin is thin and close to the eye. A pen or roller should never be used casually there. A Microneedling Pen is a treatment device, not a substitute for examination or for sterile removal of a cyst.

Do not squeeze, pierce, scrape, or repeatedly needle a bump at home. These actions can break the skin and leave discoloration or a scar.
