What should you know about micromotor hair transplant?

After local anaesthetic, the clinician uses a small motorised punch around selected follicles. The units are removed, kept in a suitable solution and sorted before placement into recipient sites. The motor changes how extraction is performed; it does not decide whether transplantation is appropriate or how the final hairline should look.

A consultation should examine the pattern and cause of loss, scalp health, donor density, hair calibre and future progression. Pattern loss, traction-related loss and patchy loss can require different plans. A sudden bald patch, scaling or painful scalp needs diagnosis before cosmetic surgery.

Share medicines, bleeding problems, allergies, smoking, scalp treatments and previous procedures. Ask how grafts will be protected during sleep and washing, when exercise or hats can resume, and whether ongoing treatment for hair loss is advised. Follow instructions about washing and prescribed medicines; do not scratch crusts or pull at newly placed grafts. Swelling, tightness, scabbing and temporary shedding can occur during recovery.

Contact the clinic promptly for increasing pain, spreading redness, pus, fever, heavy bleeding or swelling that affects the eyes or breathing. Sudden loss of sensation, a foul smell or worsening scalp tenderness also deserves assessment. Do not assume a new patch of hair loss is part of recovery; have it examined.

Ask how the motorised punch will be selected, how donor follicles will be protected, who performs extraction and placement, and what happens if the underlying hair-loss pattern continues.
