What should you know about men's microdermabrasion?

A handheld device moves across cleansed skin and uses controlled abrasion with suction to lift away some surface cells. It may be considered for dullness, uneven texture, mild congestion, or rough areas affected by frequent shaving. It does not reshape facial features or treat every cause of acne, pigmentation, or scarring.

Your clinician should examine active irritation, cuts, inflamed spots, cold sores, and any skin treatment you use. Facial hair can affect how the device reaches the skin, so the appointment plan may differ for stubble, a beard, or freshly shaved skin.

Arrive with clean skin and tell the practitioner about retinoids, exfoliating acids, recent procedures, and medicines that make your skin sensitive. Avoid shaving immediately before the appointment if shaving tends to leave you raw. Afterward, use a bland moisturiser, wash gently, and protect treated skin from strong sun. Pause harsh scrubs, fragranced products, and close shaving until the skin feels settled.

Temporary pinkness, tightness, dryness, or mild sensitivity can occur. Do not pick at flaking skin. A clinician can adjust the intensity or suggest a different approach, such as a chemical peel, when exfoliation by abrasion is unsuitable.

Contact the clinic if swelling, burning, tenderness, or redness is worsening rather than easing, or if blisters, spreading rash, pus, or marked pain develops. Seek urgent care for facial swelling with breathing difficulty, faintness, or rapidly spreading swelling. New pigment change that persists should also be assessed.
