Yeast Infection Symptoms in a Man's Groin

Candida can grow in warm, moist skin folds such as the groin. Symptoms may include redness, itching, burning, soreness, scaling, or a moist rash. The penis or scrotal skin may also feel irritated. A fungal rash is not the only explanation: friction, contact dermatitis, bacterial infection, sexually transmitted infections, and other skin conditions can look similar.

Risk can be higher with sweating, tight clothing, recent antibiotics, diabetes, or a weakened immune system. The presence of a rash does not establish the cause, so recurrent or unclear symptoms benefit from examination.

Keep the area gently clean and dry, change out of damp clothing, choose breathable underwear, and avoid fragranced soaps or harsh scrubbing. Do not share towels. A pharmacist or clinician can advise whether an antifungal treatment is suitable and how long to use it. Follow the product directions and avoid steroid cream alone unless a clinician recommends it.

If a partner has genital symptoms, or there is discharge, sores, pain when urinating, or recent sexual exposure, arrange testing rather than assuming yeast is responsible. Do not use leftover antibiotics or someone else’s cream.

Seek medical advice if symptoms are severe, spreading, painful, associated with fever, blisters, ulcers, pus, difficulty urinating, or swelling. Arrange review if the rash keeps returning, does not improve with suitable treatment, or you have diabetes or reduced immunity.
