Sore breasts and no period around menopause

Short answer
Sore breasts with no period can occur during hormonal transition, but menopause is not the only explanation and pregnancy or breast conditions may need checking.
This answers one question. It is not a diagnosis and does not replace an assessment by a licensed doctor.

Possible explanations
Hormone fluctuations during perimenopause can make breast tissue feel tender, heavy, swollen or more sensitive while periods become irregular or stop for a while. A missed period can also have other causes, including pregnancy, stress, changes in weight, illness, thyroid problems or some medicines. Menopause is confirmed by the overall pattern and medical history, not breast soreness alone.
Breast pain is often felt in both breasts or follows a cycle, but pain can also come from the chest wall, an injury, infection or a benign breast change. Track the side, exact area, duration, relation to activity and any nipple or skin changes.
What to do next
If pregnancy is possible, take an appropriate pregnancy test and seek advice about the result. Wear a supportive, comfortable bra, use a cool or warm compress, and consider simple pain relief only if it is suitable for your health and medicines. Avoid repeatedly pressing the area, which can increase soreness.
Arrange a routine appointment if pain persists, keeps returning, affects sleep, or occurs with a new lump or nipple change. A clinician can examine you and decide whether imaging or another test is needed. Breast Pain has more information about symptom patterns and assessment.
When to seek care
Seek prompt care for a new hard or fixed lump, bloody nipple discharge, a nipple that turns inward unexpectedly, skin dimpling, marked redness, warmth, swelling or fever. Urgent assessment is appropriate for severe pain with feeling very unwell or rapidly worsening breast changes. These signs do not prove a serious condition, but they should not wait for a routine menopause review.
Questions for your doctor
Could this pattern be perimenopause, pregnancy or another hormone problem? What examination or testing do I need? Which pain relief is safe with my medicines? What breast or nipple changes should prompt faster review? Could an infection or abscess explain the symptoms?

Questions people ask
Can breast soreness happen when periods are stopping?
Yes. Hormone fluctuations during perimenopause can cause tenderness while bleeding becomes irregular, but other causes should be considered.
Does breast pain mean breast cancer?
Breast pain has many possible causes and does not by itself establish cancer; new lumps or skin and nipple changes need assessment.
