Short answer

Melatonin is not a usual cause of night sweats, so repeated drenching sweats deserve a medication and health review.

This answers one question. It is not a diagnosis and does not replace an assessment by a licensed doctor.

What night sweats may mean

A warm bedroom, heavy bedding, alcohol, fever, anxiety, hormonal changes, or another medicine can make you sweat during sleep. Melatonin may change sleep timing or dream intensity, but sweating can also be coincidental. Night sweats are a presentation of several conditions, including menopause, hyperthyroidism, infections such as glandular fever or brucellosis, and some blood or immune conditions. The symptom alone cannot identify its cause.

Notice whether the sweating soaks clothing or bedding, when it began, and whether it follows each dose. Record fever, cough, weight change, swollen glands, palpitations, or daytime symptoms.

What to do next

Keep the room cool, use breathable sleepwear, and avoid alcohol close to bedtime. Do not increase melatonin to overcome poor sleep. If the sweating started after melatonin, pause self-directed use and speak with a pharmacist or clinician about the product, dose, timing, and other medicines. A clinician may review your history, examine you, and decide whether tests are appropriate.

When to seek care

Arrange a prompt appointment if night sweats recur, soak bedding, or continue after you change the sleep environment. Seek urgent medical help for severe breathing difficulty, confusion, fainting, chest pain, or a very high fever. Mention recent travel, animal exposure, new medicines, immune problems, and any unexplained weight change.

Questions for your doctor

Could another medicine, infection, hormonal change, or thyroid problem explain the sweating? Should I stop melatonin, and what sleep approach fits my situation? Which symptoms would mean I need urgent help?
