What should you know about melanoma on face treatment?

The pathology report describes the melanoma and helps the team understand how deeply it has grown. The face adds practical considerations because the eyes, nose, lips, ears, nerves, and facial movement may be close to the lesion. The plan therefore considers clear removal, wound closure, appearance, and function together.

Early disease is commonly managed with a planned operation such as Surgical Excision or Skin Cancer Surgery. Depending on the pathology, a Sentinel Lymph Node Biopsy may provide additional staging information. More advanced disease may require Tumour Removal Surgery or systemic treatment such as Immunotherapy.

Ask for the biopsy result and bring a list of medicines, allergies, and previous procedures. Photograph the area before treatment if your clinician agrees. Discuss the expected size of the wound, closure or reconstruction, pain relief, activity restrictions, scar care, and whether another specialist will be involved. Keep scheduled follow-up because treatment plans can change as results become available.

Contact the treating team promptly for increasing redness, discharge, fever, wound separation, or bleeding that does not settle after surgery. Urgent assessment is needed for new facial weakness, vision change, severe headache, confusion, or a seizure. These symptoms need evaluation even if the surgical wound looks normal.

Ask which stage has been identified, whether margins are clear, whether lymph-node testing is advised, and why a particular operation or medicine is being recommended. Clarify likely effects on facial movement or sensation, reconstruction options, recovery, and the follow-up schedule.
