What should you know about melanoma on face?

A facial melanoma may look like a new dark spot or a changing mole. Uneven shape, a jagged edge, mixed colours, growth, bleeding, crusting, or a spot unlike the surrounding marks all warrant attention. Some melanomas are subtle and do not hurt. Sun exposure can contribute, but a facial lesion still needs examination rather than self-diagnosis.

A dermatologist may inspect the face with magnification and check the rest of the skin. A biopsy confirms the diagnosis and provides measurements that help determine the next step.

Arrange a dermatology appointment and bring photographs showing any change. Do not use home acids, freezing products, or cosmetic procedures on an undiagnosed mark. Seek prompt review for a facial spot that changes quickly, bleeds, forms a persistent crust, or becomes an open sore. A new lump near the jaw or neck should also be reported. If melanoma has been diagnosed, sudden neurological symptoms such as weakness, confusion, or a seizure need urgent care.
