What should you know about melanoma abdomen?

The abdomen can contain ordinary moles, freckles, scars, and harmless growths as well as melanoma. Look for a new mark or a change in size, outline, colour, surface, or sensation. A lesion hidden by clothing may be noticed later, so include the abdomen during routine self-checks. Location alone cannot establish the diagnosis. A dermatologist may inspect the lesion with magnification and decide whether removal is needed for pathology.

Take a clear photograph and record when the change was first noticed. Do not shave over, scratch, or apply home remedies to the area.
