Medicine for vomiting during pregnancy

Nausea and vomiting are common in pregnancy, but persistent vomiting can cause dehydration and make it difficult to take essential medicines or obtain nutrition. A new pattern, fever, diarrhoea, severe pain, or headache may suggest another illness such as gastroenteritis, food poisoning, or migraine. The timing and severity help guide treatment.

Try small, frequent meals; keep a plain snack nearby; sip fluids between meals; and avoid smells that trigger nausea. Ask before using any tablet, herbal product, or travel-sickness remedy, including products bought without a prescription. A clinician can select an anti-sickness option and review whether you are keeping prenatal vitamins and other prescribed medicines down.

Contact your maternity team urgently if you cannot keep fluids down, feel faint, pass very little urine, have severe weakness, vomit blood, or have severe abdominal pain. Fever, stiff neck, a severe headache, or reduced awareness also needs urgent assessment. Early treatment can prevent dehydration from becoming more serious.
