What should you know about meat food poisoning symptoms?

Short answer
Meat-related food poisoning can cause nausea, vomiting, diarrhoea, abdominal cramps and fever, with dehydration the main immediate concern.
This answers one question. It is not a diagnosis and does not replace an assessment by a licensed doctor.

Why symptoms happen
Contaminated meat can carry germs or toxins that irritate the digestive system. Symptoms may begin after a delay, and the timing varies with the cause and the amount eaten. One person may vomit while another mainly has diarrhoea or cramps. Symptoms alone cannot identify the germ or prove that meat was the source. Blood in stool, high fever, severe abdominal pain or symptoms affecting several people after the same meal deserve particular attention.
Care at home
Take frequent small sips of water or Oral Rehydration Therapy, especially after vomiting or loose stools. Once fluids stay down, choose light foods and return gradually to normal eating. Rest, wash hands with soap and water, and avoid preparing food for other people while you are unwell. Keep chilled leftovers separate and do not taste food that may be unsafe. IV Fluid Therapy may be needed when dehydration is significant or drinking is not possible.
When to seek care
Get urgent medical advice for confusion, fainting, very little urine, severe weakness, blood in vomit or stool, persistent vomiting, severe abdominal pain or difficulty breathing. Seek assessment sooner for a young child, an older adult, pregnancy, or a weakened immune system. Fever that persists or worsening diarrhoea also warrants review.
Questions for your doctor
Ask which symptoms suggest dehydration, whether testing is needed, and how to use oral rehydration safely. Tell the clinician what was eaten, when symptoms began, whether anyone else became ill, and whether you can keep fluids down.

When should oral rehydration be considered?
It can help replace water and salts lost through vomiting or diarrhoea; take small sips and seek care if fluids cannot stay down.
