Measles immunity test: what to know

A measles immunity test is a blood test that checks for antibodies suggesting protection against measles. It may be useful when vaccination records are unavailable, unclear, or required for work, study, travel, or healthcare planning.

The test commonly looks for measles-specific IgG antibodies. A positive result generally supports that your immune system has encountered measles through vaccination or past infection. A negative or unclear result does not explain why antibodies are not detected, so a clinician considers it alongside your records, health history, and the reason for testing. Keep a copy of the laboratory result with any available immunisation documentation.
