What should you know about mastitis streptococcus?

Mastitis is inflammation of breast tissue. Streptococcus refers to a group of bacteria that can infect skin or deeper tissue. A sore or cracked nipple may provide an entry point, although not every episode of mastitis is caused by bacteria. Breast pain, warmth, redness, swelling and feverish feelings can overlap across causes, so the appearance of the breast does not confirm streptococcus.
