What should you know about Marghoob dermoscopy?

Marghoob dermoscopy is a close skin examination using magnification and specialised light to assess patterns within moles and other lesions. It can support a clinician's visual assessment, but it does not by itself provide a tissue diagnosis.

A dermatoscope reduces surface reflection and enlarges the view, allowing a trained examiner to assess colour, symmetry, borders, vessels, and structures beneath the outer skin layer. The clinician may compare the mark with photographs or examine several lesions for differences. A reassuring appearance may lead to monitoring, while an uncertain or changing lesion may need a closer review or sampling. The result depends on the examiner, the lesion, and its history.

Before the appointment, note when you first noticed the mark and whether its size, shape, colour, surface, or symptoms have changed. Bring details of previous skin cancers, biopsies, or family history if relevant. Avoid covering the area with makeup on the day when possible.
