Lung Fissures X-Ray: What to Know

On a chest X-ray, lung fissures are thin anatomical planes that separate parts of the lungs. A radiology report may mention them when describing normal anatomy or a change in their position or visibility. That wording is different from skin fissures, which are painful splits in dry, thickened, or inflamed skin.

If your concern is cracked skin on the hands, feet, lips, or another body area, the chest X-ray is not the test that diagnoses it. Seek urgent care for severe breathing difficulty, blue or grey lips, sudden chest pain, coughing blood, fainting, or confusion. Fever, spreading redness, pus, or rapidly increasing pain can signal infection and should not be ignored.
