Lung cancer mets to brain symptoms

A brain metastasis is a deposit of cancer that has travelled from the lung to the brain. Symptoms depend on where it is and whether it causes swelling. A person may notice a new or worsening headache, nausea or vomiting, a seizure, weakness or numbness affecting one side, difficulty walking, dizziness, poor coordination, speech or memory changes, vision problems, or a change in mood or alertness. These symptoms can have other causes, so a symptom alone does not establish brain spread. Tell the oncology team promptly about any new neurological symptom, its start time, how it is changing, and any medicines you take. Assessment may include a neurological examination and brain imaging. Treatment can include steroids for swelling, anti-seizure medicine when appropriate, focused [Radiotherapy](/treatments/radiation-oncology/radiotherapy/), surgery in selected cases, or medicines for the underlying lung cancer. Seek emergency help for a first seizure, repeated seizures, sudden facial drooping, new one-sided weakness, inability to speak, collapse, severe confusion, or a sudden severe headache. Urgent assessment is also needed for rapidly worsening vomiting, marked sleepiness, or a sudden loss of vision. Do not drive yourself if these symptoms occur.
