A slide scanner creates a detailed digital image that a pathologist can view on a screen, zoom into, compare with other areas, and annotate. Digital files can support discussion between specialists without moving the physical slide, while the original specimen and glass slide remain part of the laboratory record. Software may help organise images or highlight areas for review, but the pathologist interprets the findings alongside the specimen quality, clinical history, imaging, and laboratory results.
