Why it happens

Ovulation can cause discomfort on one side when an egg is released, with the sensation lasting briefly or returning during some cycles. Similar pain may come from an ovarian cyst, endometriosis, adenomyosis, fibroids, or pelvic inflammatory disease. The timing of pain is useful information but cannot distinguish these causes by itself. A new pattern, increasing severity, or symptoms between cycles deserves review.
