Lots of red moles appearing: what to know

Cherry angiomas are small collections of blood vessels in the skin. They may appear as bright red, ruby, or darker red bumps and can be smooth or slightly raised. People may notice more over time, and minor rubbing can make one bleed. Their appearance can overlap with other vascular or pigmented lesions, so a photograph alone is not enough to identify every red spot.

A clinician can inspect the spots with magnification and decide whether observation is suitable. Avoid assuming that every red mark is the same, especially when one differs from the others.

Take a clear photograph in good light and note when the spots appeared, whether they are increasing, and whether clothing or shaving irritates them. Keep the skin protected from friction and do not squeeze, pierce, or burn a spot. If treatment is wanted for repeated bleeding or appearance, a clinician may discuss Pulsed Dye Laser Treatment or Electrosurgery after confirming what the lesion is.

Book a skin review for a spot that changes quickly, develops an irregular surface, repeatedly bleeds, forms a persistent crust, or fails to heal. Seek prompt advice if many lesions appear alongside unexplained bruising or bleeding elsewhere. Sudden change is a reason for assessment, not proof of a serious condition.

Ask whether the spots have the typical appearance of cherry angiomas, whether any lesion needs closer examination, and which changes should prompt follow-up. If treatment is considered, ask about expected redness, crusting, and aftercare.
