Loss of appetite before a period while pregnant

Appetite may change with early pregnancy, premenstrual hormone shifts, stress, nausea, reflux, or an illness. Loss of appetite is not proof of pregnancy, and a missed period is not explained by this symptom alone. Pregnancy-related nausea may occur with food aversions, tiredness, breast tenderness, or increased urination, while infection may bring fever, diarrhea, vomiting, or aches. Symptoms can overlap, so their timing and severity matter more than one sign.

If pregnancy is possible, use a home pregnancy test according to its instructions and repeat it or contact a clinician if the result is negative but your period does not arrive. Eat small, frequent portions and choose bland or familiar foods if nausea is present. Sip water or an oral rehydration drink when needed. Avoid alcohol and check before taking medicines or supplements, especially if pregnancy has not been ruled out.

Get urgent help for severe one-sided lower abdominal pain, shoulder-tip pain, faintness, heavy vaginal bleeding, or marked weakness when pregnancy is possible. Contact a clinician promptly if you cannot keep fluids down, have fever, severe pain, blood in vomit or stool, or symptoms that keep worsening. These features need assessment rather than being attributed to a menstrual or pregnancy change.
