Loose skin under the breasts

The underside of the breast is a warm, occluded area where skin may stretch as breast size or weight changes. A hanging fold can rub against clothing and trap sweat, leading to redness, soreness, odour, scaling, or small cracks. These signs point to irritation or infection that may need separate treatment. Changes on only one side, a new lump, nipple change, or a persistent focal area should be assessed rather than labelled as loose skin.

Keep the fold gently clean and dry, choose a well-fitting supportive bra, and avoid harsh scrubbing or fragranced products on irritated skin. A clinician can identify dermatitis, fungal irritation, or another cause before discussing tightening. Radiofrequency Skin Tightening or HIFU Skin Lifting may be considered for selected skin laxity, but treatment settings and safety depend on the area and nearby breast tissue. A Thread Lift is not automatically appropriate simply because skin hangs. If breast size, shape, or substantial excess tissue is the main concern, ask whether a surgical breast consultation is more suitable.

Arrange prompt review for a new breast lump, bloody or unusual nipple discharge, nipple inversion, skin dimpling, or a change confined to one breast. Seek care quickly if the fold is very painful, hot, rapidly red, bleeding, ulcerated, or accompanied by fever. A rash that persists despite keeping the area dry also needs diagnosis.
