What should you know about loose skin stomach weight loss?

Short answer
Loose stomach skin after weight loss may improve in appearance over time, but substantial excess skin often needs an assessment for treatment options.
This answers one question. It is not a diagnosis and does not replace an assessment by a licensed doctor.

Why weight loss can leave laxity
When skin has been stretched, its elastic fibres may not fully retract after the underlying volume decreases. The result can be a soft fold, creasing or rubbing beneath the abdomen. This is different from remaining fat, and both can be present together. Skin quality, age, genetics, the amount of stretching and the stability of weight all influence the appearance. A fold that is painful, inflamed or difficult to keep dry deserves more than a cosmetic assessment.
Making a realistic plan
Aim for a stable, nourishing routine rather than rapid further loss. Keep folds clean and dry, wear comfortable clothing, and use sun protection on exposed skin. A clinician can examine whether the concern is skin, fat, muscle or a combination. Mild laxity may be discussed with Radiofrequency Skin Tightening or HIFU Skin Lifting; a larger fold may require a surgical consultation. Thread Lift is another treatment discussion for selected areas, but it does not remove a broad abdominal excess.
When to be examined
Book an assessment for persistent soreness, cracking, bleeding, odour, discharge, a rash under the fold or repeated infections. Seek urgent care for rapidly developing swelling, severe pain, fever, spreading redness, a hard fixed lump or skin that becomes dark and damaged.
Questions for your doctor
Has my weight been stable long enough to assess the result? How much of the fold is skin versus fat? Could treatment improve rubbing as well as appearance? What scars, downtime and follow-up would surgery involve?

Questions people ask
Can more weight loss remove the loose skin?
Further loss may reduce volume but can also leave more lax tissue; a clinician can help set a safe goal.
Can radiofrequency treat a large abdominal fold?
It may suit selected mild laxity, while a substantial fold usually needs a different discussion.
