Abdominoplasty removes selected excess skin and may tighten the abdominal wall, but it does not stop ageing or future changes in weight, pregnancy, and tissue elasticity. Early unevenness can be caused by swelling, scar firmness, or differences in how each side heals. A new fold, bulge, or contour change needs examination because the skin may not be the only tissue involved.

Follow the postoperative instructions, protect the scar from sun, and avoid changing compression or activity without guidance from your surgical team. Keep photographs and note when the laxity appeared and whether it changes with posture. Once healing is established, your surgeon can discuss revision surgery or non-surgical approaches such as radiofrequency skin tightening or HIFU skin lifting when appropriate. A thread lift is not a universal substitute for removing substantial excess skin.

Contact your surgical team promptly for increasing redness, warmth, drainage, wound separation, fever, worsening pain, or sudden one-sided swelling. A hardening area, new bulge, or breathing difficulty also warrants assessment. Do not treat a postoperative change as a cosmetic issue until complications have been excluded.

Ask whether healing is complete, whether the abdominal wall is intact, what caused the contour change, and how a revision would affect scars, recovery, and future procedures.
