Liver metastases are cancer deposits that started in another organ. Outlook depends on the original cancer, its biology, the number and position of liver deposits, whether cancer is present elsewhere, liver function, general health, and how the disease responds to treatment. Bowel Cancer and Pancreatic Cancer can behave differently, so their outlooks cannot be combined. A scan gives a snapshot rather than a personal timetable. Your team may discuss a range of possibilities and revise it as treatment response and symptoms become clearer.

Ask your oncologist to explain the aim of treatment, the factors helping or limiting control, and what signs will show whether the plan is working. Options can include Chemotherapy, Liver Resection, Tumour Ablation, other cancer-directed treatment, and supportive care. Ask how symptom control will be provided alongside cancer treatment.
