What should you know about little spots under eyes?

Milia are tiny, firm, pale or white cyst-like spots that commonly sit just beneath the surface. Red or itchy spots may instead reflect irritation from eye products, rubbing, eczema, or a nearby rash. A spot close to the lash line can also involve an eyelid gland. The exact location, colour, firmness, and symptoms help a clinician narrow the possibilities.

The skin around the eyes is thin, so squeezing, needling, abrasive scrubs, and strong acne products can injure it. Do not put household remedies or essential oils near the eye.

Use a gentle cleanser, remove makeup without rubbing, and stop a new eye cream or cosmetic if irritation started after it. Keep phones, towels, and hands clean, and avoid picking. If firm spots remain, a dermatologist can confirm the cause and discuss safe professional removal or another treatment; care around the eye should be chosen with extra caution.

Arrange an assessment if spots persist, multiply, bleed, crust, change, or sit directly on the eyelid margin. Seek prompt eye care for eye pain, marked redness of the eye, light sensitivity, vision changes, significant swelling, or discharge. Sudden swelling with breathing difficulty is an emergency.
