What should you know about little red spots on penile head?

The glans can become red or spotty after friction, scented products, condom or lubricant sensitivity, or trapped moisture. Inflammation of the glans may cause soreness, itching, swelling, or discharge. Some spots are pimples or blocked follicles, while others fit conditions such as folliculitis or acne elsewhere on the body; the same-looking mark can have a different cause in this sensitive area.

A clinician may ask about recent sexual contact, new products, pain when passing urine, discharge, and whether the spots are blisters, ulcers, bumps, or flat areas. Do not squeeze them or use acne, steroid, or antiseptic products on the glans without advice.

Rinse with lukewarm water, dry gently, and pause fragranced soaps, vigorous rubbing, and sexual contact if these worsen symptoms. Wear breathable underwear and avoid applying medicines meant for facial skin. If the spots persist, recur, or follow unprotected sex, arrange an examination; testing may be needed before treatment is chosen.

Seek prompt medical care for blisters, open sores, marked swelling, pus-like discharge, fever, severe pain, trouble passing urine, or rapidly spreading redness. Urgent help is needed if the foreskin becomes stuck behind the glans or swelling interferes with urination. A red spot does not by itself identify a sexually transmitted infection, but new sexual exposure makes assessment especially worthwhile.

Ask what the spots most resemble, whether urine or sexual-health tests are appropriate, which products to stop, whether a partner needs advice, and when it is safe to resume sexual contact.
