Little red bumps on skin that itch

A rash after a new product, fabric, plant, or chemical can fit contact dermatitis. Heat and trapped sweat can produce heat rash. Scaling or thicker plaques may occur with psoriasis, while sun exposure can cause sunburn. Facial bumps with flushing may occur with rosacea. Cellulitis is different: it usually causes a painful, warm, expanding area rather than a scattered itchy rash, so worsening tenderness deserves attention.

Cool the skin with a clean damp cloth, use a fragrance-free moisturizer, and keep nails short to reduce damage from scratching. Stop a newly added cosmetic, cleanser, or topical product until the cause is clearer. Wear loose clothing, avoid overheating, and protect sun-exposed skin. Do not apply steroid or antibiotic creams to a spreading or infected-looking area without professional advice.

Seek urgent help for trouble breathing, swelling of the lips or tongue, faintness, blistering over a large area, or a rash with fever and severe illness. Obtain prompt assessment if redness is hot, painful, rapidly expanding, or associated with pus. Arrange a routine review when itching persists, disrupts sleep, returns often, or affects the eyes, mouth, or genitals.
