List of foods to eat with acid reflux

Short answer
With acid reflux, choose smaller meals built around foods you tolerate, and limit personal triggers rather than following a rigid food list.
This answers one question. It is not a diagnosis and does not replace an assessment by a licensed doctor.
At a glance
- Best starting point
- Smaller portions and a personal trigger diary.
- Timing
- Stay upright after meals and avoid eating close to bedtime.
How food can affect reflux
Reflux occurs when stomach contents move upward into the food pipe. Large or fatty meals may stay in the stomach longer for some people. Spicy foods, tomato, citrus, chocolate, mint, coffee, alcohol and fizzy drinks can trigger symptoms in some people, but a food is not automatically a trigger for everyone.
Keep a brief food-and-symptom diary. Notice whether burning, Cough, abdominal discomfort or Difficulty Sleeping follows a particular meal, portion or eating time. A Hiatus Hernia or Obesity can also influence symptoms and may need separate attention.
Practical choices
Try modest portions of vegetables, oats, rice, potatoes, bananas, melons, lean protein and lower-fat meals if these suit you. Eat slowly, remain upright after eating and leave time between your last meal and bedtime. Change one trigger at a time so you can tell what helps.
Avoid cutting out many foods without a plan, especially if it reduces nutrition or enjoyment. A clinician can help if symptoms continue despite adjustments, and treatment may be needed alongside food changes.
When to get medical help
Seek urgent care for severe or persistent Chest Tightness, especially with breathlessness, sweating, nausea or pain spreading to the arm or jaw. Arrange medical assessment for trouble swallowing, vomiting blood, black stools, unexplained weight loss or ongoing Abdominal Pain.
Questions for a clinician
Ask whether your pattern fits Acid Reflux, whether medicines could be contributing and whether you need assessment for a Hiatus Hernia. Ask for help creating a balanced plan if symptoms are frequent or affect sleep.

Questions people ask
Is there one reflux diet for everyone?
No. Triggers differ, so use your symptoms and a short diary to guide reasonable changes.
Can I still eat foods I enjoy?
Often yes, in smaller portions or at different times if they do not trigger symptoms; avoid only foods that clearly cause problems.
