Lips After Hyaluronidase: What to Expect

Hyaluronidase is an enzyme used to break down hyaluronic acid filler. The treated area may look uneven while injection swelling and the filler response change. Some people notice reduced projection or a softer outline; others still have fullness where product remains or where swelling has not settled. Mild itching or sensitivity may follow the injections.

A change in shape does not by itself show that the lips have been harmed. The clinician needs to consider the original filler, the treated area, and the timing of the review before deciding whether more treatment is needed.

Follow the injector’s written instructions. Do not squeeze, rub, or repeatedly check the lips unless the clinician has asked you to massage them. A clean cool compress can be placed gently over the area for comfort. Keep products simple if the lip surface is irritated, and avoid adding another injectable treatment until an examination confirms that the tissues have settled.

Note the timing of swelling, rash, pain, and colour changes. Bring the name of the filler and any medicines or allergies to follow-up, because those details can affect the next decision.

Call emergency services for difficulty breathing, tongue or throat swelling, collapse, or rapidly worsening facial swelling. Seek prompt assessment for severe or escalating pain, marked colour change, cold skin, spreading redness, pus, or fever. A clinician should also review symptoms that are getting worse rather than settling, because an allergic response, infection, or impaired blood flow can require specific treatment.

Ask what product was dissolved, whether the enzyme was expected to affect all of the filler, and when the next examination should occur. Ask which swelling or colour changes are expected, whether you should use any prescribed treatment, and when future filler could be considered safely.
