What should you know about liporase hyaluronidase?

Hyaluronidase acts on hyaluronic acid, the gel used in many dermal fillers. It may be considered when filler has created an unwanted contour, asymmetry, lump or swelling, or when a clinician is concerned about a filler-related blood-flow problem. It does not dissolve every filler material, and the response can vary with the product, amount, placement and surrounding tissue. A clinician must first identify what was injected and assess the area rather than treating an unknown product blindly.

Bring the filler product name, treatment date, injection area and any previous reversal history to your appointment. The clinician may mark the area, cleanse the skin and use targeted injections; more than one assessment may be needed as swelling settles. Temporary stinging, redness, bruising or swelling can occur. Follow the aftercare instructions, avoid pressing or manipulating the area unless advised, and return for review if the result is incomplete. Ask whether dissolving the gel could also reduce intended volume or alter the shape you wanted.

Contact the treating clinic urgently for worsening pain, pale or dusky skin, unusual mottling, coolness, blistering or changes in vision after filler. These signs can indicate compromised blood flow and need immediate clinical assessment; do not wait for a routine review. Seek emergency care for breathing difficulty, widespread hives, facial or throat swelling, faintness or rapidly worsening symptoms. Hyaluronidase should be administered by a qualified clinician who can assess the cause and respond to complications.
