What should you know about Linde liquid nitrogen?

Liquid nitrogen is nitrogen held at an extremely low temperature. A clinician applies it briefly with a spray or a small applicator to a targeted area. The cold damages unwanted superficial tissue so the treated spot can shed as the skin heals. It may be used for some warts, actinic keratoses, benign growths, or other lesions after an examination. The brand or supplier name does not change the basic treatment principle.

During treatment, you may feel intense cold, stinging, or aching for a short time. The area can become red, swollen, blistered, or crusted before it settles. Keep the site clean, avoid picking a blister or scab, and follow the dressing instructions you receive. Gentle washing is usually preferable to scrubbing. Protect healing skin from sun exposure, because temporary colour change can occur, especially in deeply pigmented skin. Do not apply household liquid nitrogen or attempt to freeze a lesion yourself.

Contact the treating clinic if pain is increasing rather than easing, redness is spreading, swelling is marked, or the site develops pus, fever, or persistent bleeding. Seek prompt assessment for a lesion that changes unexpectedly, fails to heal, or returns after treatment; freezing is not suitable for every skin growth and a diagnosis may need to be confirmed.

Ask which lesion is being treated, why cryotherapy is appropriate, how many sessions may be needed, and what colour or texture change could remain. Clarify dressing care, pain relief, sun protection, and the symptoms that should trigger a review.
