What should you know about lightsheer diode laser?

A diode laser sends energy toward pigment in the hair shaft and follicle. Heat can interfere with the follicle’s ability to produce hair, but hairs respond best when they are in a particular growth phase. That is why a course of appointments is often discussed rather than one session.

LightSheer is a device platform, not a promise of identical results for every person. Hair colour, thickness, body area, skin tone, hormonal influences and the selected settings all affect the response. Fine, pale or grey hair may respond differently from coarse, darker hair.

Tell the clinician about tanning, medicines that increase light sensitivity, active skin irritation, scarring tendencies and any history of cold sores in the area. Avoid plucking or waxing before an appointment if instructed, because the follicle needs to remain present for the laser to target it. Shaving may be recommended instead.

During treatment you may feel warmth, snapping or brief stinging. Redness around follicles can follow and generally needs gentle care. Avoid deliberate sun exposure, use the recommended sunscreen, and wait for the clinic’s advice before applying fragranced products, exfoliants or deodorant to a treated area.

Contact the clinic if you develop blistering, marked swelling, increasing pain, pus, spreading redness or a colour change that does not settle. Urgent review is appropriate for severe pain, facial swelling with breathing difficulty, or signs of a serious allergic reaction.
