Lightheadedness and body aches: what should you know?

Influenza and COVID-19 can present with body aches, tiredness, fever, cough, or other respiratory symptoms. Dengue Fever and malaria may cause fever with marked aches, headache, chills, or worsening weakness, particularly after travel or mosquito exposure. Brucellosis is another infection associated with fever and body aches in some people.

Persistent aches without an acute illness can occur with Fibromyalgia, while Hypothyroidism can contribute to low energy and muscle discomfort. These conditions are possibilities, not conclusions from symptoms alone.

Sit or lie down when lightheaded, rise slowly, and take fluids in small frequent amounts if you can drink normally. Rest, record your temperature, and note when the aches and lightheadedness started. Avoid driving while symptoms affect balance or alertness.

Arrange medical advice if symptoms persist, recur, or interfere with drinking and daily activity. Mention recent travel, insect bites, sick contacts, new medicines, vomiting, diarrhoea, and any long-term symptoms.

Seek urgent help for fainting, confusion, trouble breathing, chest pain, severe headache, stiff neck, a new rash with fever, repeated vomiting, unusual bleeding, severe abdominal pain, or inability to keep fluids down. Fever after travel to a malaria-risk area needs prompt assessment.
