Light spotting at 6 weeks

At six weeks, the cervix and surrounding tissues can be sensitive, and some people notice spotting without a clear trigger. Bleeding may also accompany a pregnancy that is changing or an ectopic pregnancy. The amount of blood does not provide a diagnosis on its own. Assessment may include an examination, pregnancy hormone measurements over time, and ultrasound when the timing and findings make it useful. A previous ectopic pregnancy, fertility treatment, or significant pelvic pain should be mentioned promptly.

Go to emergency care for severe abdominal pain, pain focused on one side, shoulder-tip pain, fainting, pronounced dizziness, heavy bleeding, or weakness with a pale or clammy appearance. Fever or sudden deterioration also needs urgent attention. Do not wait for a planned scan when these symptoms occur.
