What should you know about light green cloudy urine?

A temporary colour change may follow strongly coloured foods, drinks or some medicines. Cloudiness can occur when urine is concentrated, especially after drinking less than usual, and may improve as hydration returns. Burning when passing urine, needing to go often, lower abdominal discomfort or an unusual smell can occur with a urinary tract infection. Fever, chills, pain in the side or back, nausea, or feeling markedly unwell needs faster medical assessment because infection can involve the kidneys. Dehydration can make urine darker and stronger-smelling, although green colouring is not typical.

Notice when the colour began and whether it changes after normal fluid intake. Drink fluids regularly unless a clinician has told you to restrict them. Do not stop a prescribed medicine without advice; record new medicines, supplements and brightly coloured foods. If cloudiness continues, returns repeatedly, or comes with urinary discomfort, arrange a clinician review. A urine test may help distinguish irritation, infection and other causes.

Seek urgent medical help for fever with flank pain, vomiting, confusion, fainting, severe pain, or difficulty passing urine. Arrange prompt care for visible blood, pregnancy with urinary symptoms, or symptoms that are worsening. A colour change without other symptoms still deserves review if it does not settle after a short period.
