Light cloudy urine during pregnancy

Pregnancy can make vaginal discharge more noticeable, and this may mix with urine or affect what you see in the toilet. Concentrated urine can also look hazy when you have taken in less fluid. A urinary tract infection may present with cloudy urine, burning, frequent urination, urgency, or lower abdominal discomfort. A kidney infection may cause fever, chills, side or back pain, nausea, or vomiting. Cloudy urine alone does not show which explanation applies, and pregnancy symptoms can overlap with ordinary changes.

Keep drinking fluids regularly unless your maternity team has advised a restriction. If the change persists or you have urinary symptoms, contact your obstetric or primary-care team for a urine test; pregnancy is a reason to seek advice rather than self-treat. Do not use leftover antibiotics or non-prescribed remedies. Note when the cloudiness started and whether it occurs with discharge.

Contact a clinician promptly for burning, urgency, new pelvic discomfort, fever, chills, or blood in the urine. Seek urgent care for side or back pain, repeated vomiting, faintness, confusion, or inability to keep fluids down. Tell the clinician how far along the pregnancy is and whether you have had previous urinary infections.
