Letrozole inhibits aromatase, an enzyme that helps the body make oestrogen. Some breast cancer cells use oestrogen signals to grow, so reducing that signal can be useful when the cancer is hormone-sensitive. Your oncologist may recommend it after surgery or other treatment, before an operation, or for ongoing control of disease. Its purpose in your care depends on the pathology, treatment history, menopause status, and overall health.

Letrozole does not treat every cancer and is not a general medicine for unexplained symptoms. A prescription assessment connects the medicine to a specific clinical goal.

Take letrozole in the dose and schedule on your prescription. Ask what to do if you forget a tablet rather than taking an extra one.
