What should you know about left upper flank pain?

Flank pain is felt between the ribs and hip, often towards the side or back. Muscle pain may follow lifting, twisting, coughing, or an awkward posture and may worsen when you move or press the area. Kidney Stones can cause severe waves of pain that travel towards the groin, while Kidney Infection or a Urinary Tract Infection may cause a steady ache with fever, chills, painful urination, urgency, or cloudy urine. Upper abdominal, rib, lung, or skin problems can also be felt nearby. The left side does not determine the cause by itself.
