Left-side pain and angina

Angina can spread to the arm, shoulder, neck, jaw, or back and may come on with exertion or emotional stress before easing with rest. Breathlessness, sweating, nausea, or unusual tiredness can occur too. Chest discomfort is not always heart-related, but a left-sided location does not make it safe to ignore. High blood pressure can contribute to heart and blood-vessel strain. A clinician may review your symptoms, pulse, blood pressure, medical history, and medicines, then decide whether tests such as an Electrocardiogram are appropriate.

Stop exertion and sit upright when symptoms begin. If you have prescribed angina medicine, use it exactly as directed. Do not borrow someone else's medicine or drive yourself if symptoms are concerning. Arrange medical review for new, changing, more frequent, or less predictable episodes. Treatment may include managing blood pressure and cholesterol alongside activity and smoking advice tailored to you.

Call emergency services immediately for chest pressure or pain that is severe, lasts beyond rest, returns quickly, or occurs with breathlessness, fainting, cold sweating, nausea, or pain spreading to the arm or jaw. Treat sudden or worsening symptoms as an emergency, even if you are unsure they are angina.

Ask what pattern your symptoms suggest, which warning signs require emergency help, and whether you need an Electrocardiogram or other assessment. Discuss blood pressure targets, current medicines, and whether Blood Pressure Medication or Statin Therapy is suitable.
