Late miscarriage meaning: what to know

Definitions vary between health systems, so the exact gestational boundary may differ. Symptoms can include vaginal bleeding, fluid loss, cramping, pelvic pressure or reduced pregnancy symptoms, but symptoms alone cannot confirm what is happening. An ultrasound and clinical assessment may be needed to check the pregnancy and your health.

Seek emergency care for very heavy bleeding, severe or one-sided pain, fainting, dizziness, fever, chills, foul-smelling discharge or feeling suddenly very unwell. These symptoms can signal bleeding, infection or another urgent pregnancy problem.
