Laser Surgery for Face Wrinkles: What to Know

Although people often say laser surgery, many wrinkle procedures are outpatient skin treatments rather than an operation involving an incision. The laser may remove part of the outer skin or deliver controlled heat deeper in the skin. This can improve selected lines and texture as the skin heals, but it does not stop normal facial movement or replace lost volume.

A consultation should examine whether lines are mainly surface changes, sun-related damage, facial movement, or folds. Sun-Damaged Skin and Crow's Feet may overlap, yet they do not always respond to the same treatment. Deeper resurfacing can require more wound care and downtime; gentler treatment usually changes the skin more gradually.

Tell the clinician about tanning, cold sores, active skin disease, previous scars, medicines, and earlier cosmetic treatments. Discuss eye protection, anaesthesia or numbing, expected peeling, and when work or social activities can resume. Follow the prescribed preparation and stop only the products your clinician identifies.

During recovery, cleanse and moisturise as directed, avoid picking, and protect the face from sunlight. Do not use strong exfoliants or resume hair removal until the skin has healed enough for those activities. Botox may suit movement-related lines, while Dermal Fillers may suit selected volume loss; these alternatives require their own assessment.

Contact the clinic if pain, swelling, or redness is worsening, if the area develops blisters, pus, spreading warmth, delayed healing, or a marked colour change. Seek urgent help for breathing difficulty, severe facial swelling, or new eye pain or vision changes after treatment near the eyes. A reaction should be assessed before applying unapproved creams or cosmetics.

Ask what type of wrinkle is being treated, whether a laser procedure is appropriate, what depth and recovery are expected, and how pigment-change risk is managed for your skin tone. Also discuss alternatives, aftercare, follow-up, and what happens if improvement is uneven.
