What should you know about laser hair removal facial hair?

The device delivers light that is absorbed by pigment in the hair and converted to heat near its follicle. Hairs respond when they are in a particular growth phase, so reduction is gradual and repeat visits are planned. Darker, coarser hair is generally easier to target than fine, grey, white, or very light hair. Skin tone, tanning, device wavelength, and settings influence safety and response.

Facial hair can change with hormones. New coarse hair accompanied by irregular periods, acne, scalp hair thinning, or a rapid change should prompt a medical conversation. Do not apply a new strong product to freshly treated skin without advice. If shaving triggers ingrown hairs or razor bumps, ask for a prevention plan rather than repeatedly irritating the area.

Seek advice for blistering, severe or worsening pain, spreading redness, pus, fever, or a lasting change in skin colour. Get urgent help if facial swelling affects the lips, tongue, or breathing. Pause treatment while an unexplained rash or persistent irritation is assessed.
