Laser for Under-Eye Wrinkles: What to Know

Under-eye lines may be visible when the face moves, present at rest, or made more noticeable by dry skin, sun exposure or loss of support. Laser can stimulate healing and remodel the surface so fine lines look less prominent. It cannot correct every cause of ageing around the eyes, and the result depends on the device, depth, skin quality and healing response.

Redness, swelling, sensitivity, peeling and temporary changes in colour are possible. The area is delicate, so burns, scarring, prolonged irritation or eye injury must be discussed. Sun-Damaged Skin and Crow's Feet may contribute to the appearance, but a clinician should assess the skin before selecting a procedure.

Choose a clinician trained to treat the periocular area and ask how the eyes will be shielded. Mention dry eye, eye disease, contact lenses, cold sores, medicines, recent tanning and previous pigment changes. Use only the recommended skincare before and after treatment, keep peeling skin untouched, and protect the area from sunlight. Depending on whether lines are caused by movement or volume loss, Botox or Dermal Fillers may be discussed instead of, or alongside, laser.

Contact the clinic for worsening pain, pus, spreading redness or swelling that does not settle. Seek urgent eye assessment for blurred or reduced vision, severe eye pain, new double vision, marked light sensitivity or difficulty opening the eye. Delay cosmetic treatment while an active rash, infection or unexplained eyelid lesion is being assessed.
